Work

Antonia Beard (b.1991) makes sculptures, installations and artist books. She uses the process of making to map her environments and examines how our material culture connects to the architecture of our experience. Her practice is almost entirely process-led as it forms around her given circumstances; she delves into each situation, listening carefully to the forces at play in her surroundings. She uses found materials not only as a means of sustainable practice but as a means of investigating the material and cultural history of a place. Her working methods depend on the features of her environment, seeing the process of making as an act of paying attention. Each project comes to life as both a ritual and an investigation, leading to final works that explore the physical and social functions of materials.
